Regional 9-1-1 Emergency Number Program / Telecommunicator Awards 2007

awardThe Commission on State Emergency Communications (CSEC) annually honors the men and women who are the calm and reassuring voices on the other end of the phone when you dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Telecommunicator of the Year Awards are given for expert handling of a specific 9-1-1 call for emergency assistance. The 2007 awards were presented at the Texas-NENA/CSEC Telecommunicator Conference and Awards Ceremony in San Antonio.

A total of nine awards were given from a pool of 34 nominations encompassing the entire State of Texas. Of these nine, five of the top individual award recipients are from the NCTCOG Region (16 counties).

The 9-1-1 program at the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) includes 43 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPS) in 13 counties. Of these top award winners, two are in the NCTCOG's 9-1-1 Program: Jamie McCarty, Collin County Sheriff's Office, and Stephanie Samples, Hunt County Sheriff's Office. The team award winner, from the city of Midlothian (Amy Calder, Diane Barber, Christie Doporto, Vicki Layne, Steffanie Medina, Catherine Stevens, Christine Thompson), is also in NCTCOG's 9-1-1 Program.

The remaining top three recipients, while not in the NCTCOG 9-1-1 program, are from NCTCOG's Regional District, which includes Denton, Tarrant, and Dallas counties, for a total of 16 counties. Recipients from these counties include: Laura Hines, City of North Richland Hills; Robin Thomas, Denton County Sheriff's Department; and Cristal Guardiola, City of Dallas.
