Regional 9-1-1 Emergency Number Program 2009 NCTCOG Telecommunicator Awards

award NCTCOG's 9-1-1 Program annually recognizes their area agencies and individuals for outstanding performance. These awards are given to those that are leaders among their peers.

Agency of the Year awards are determined by several factors, including inspection proficiency, keeping up-to-date logs, providing staff with training opportunities, attendance at NCTCOG quarterly supervisors meetings, and awareness of interlocal agreement mandates.

Telecommunicator of the Year awards are given for expert handling of a specific 9-1-1 call for emergency assistance.

Above and Beyond Performance awards focus on Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) test calls. Each agency is required to have their dispatchers do one test call a month. Some agencies, however, go above and beyond this requirement and require each dispatcher do one test call per shift. This award goes to the highest number of TDD test calls made by an agency.

The 2009 winners are:

  • Agency of the Year - Weatherford Police Department
  • Telecommunicator of the Year - Cindy Skidmore, Bridgeport Police Department
  • Above and Beyond Performance - Wise County Sheriff's Office
