Caregiving can be a demanding job – it’s almost impossible to take on alone. The emotional, physical and mental toll can leave you feeling exhausted. If you need a break, the Agency provides temporary relief for family caregivers. Eligible family members receive vouchers of up to $300 that may be used to purchase in-home or institutional care. Complete the following steps to apply.

Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers™

Stress-Busting Program for Family CaregiversThis program provides support to family caregivers of persons with dementia. It is proven to improve the quality of life of family caregivers who provide care for persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias and helps caregivers manage their stress and cope better with their lives.

The Stress-Busting Program is focused on education, support, problem-solving, and stress management. It takes a holistic approach addressing the emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive needs of the caregivers. Participants meet for 90 minutes once a week for 9 weeks.

Topics include stress and relaxation; coping with stress; grief, loss, and depression; dealing with challenging behaviors; positive thinking; taking time for yourself; and choosing a path of wellness. Participants explore stress management techniques such as relaxation breathing, guided imagery, meditation, art, music and journaling.

The Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers was developed at the UT Health Science Center, San Antonio. Respite vouchers may be available for those that qualify. For more information, contact Laura Wolfe at lwolfe@nctcog.org or 972-978-1371.

We know that there are times when you need help with the physical care of your loved one.  Our social workers can help connect you with services that enhance your ability to care for older loved ones.
