Area Agency on Aging - Information for Professionals, Volunteers, and Advocates

peopleThe North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging is charged by the Older Americans Act to plan, coordinate and deliver services for older adults and their family caregivers. In carrying out its planning role, it sets a strategic direction for its services and shares information with communities to help them plan for aging needs.

What services are available to older adults at the local level?

The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging contracts with locally based organizations to provide nutrition services—including home-delivered and congregate meals—and transportation services. Transportation is available by reservation only, within county limits. For more information about nutrition or transportation services, contact the agency that serves your county.

What services are available to nursing home residents?

Home By Choice is a program funded by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services to help nursing home residents of all ages who are Medicaid eligible return to the community. It draws on the resources of the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging, Dallas Area Agency on Aging, Tarrant Area Agency on Aging, Texoma Area Agency on Aging, and REACH Centers on Independent living. Community Care Options Counseling is a program funded by the Texas Department on Aging and Disability Services to help nursing home residents who are not funded by Medicaid to understand their options for community care. To speak with an options counselor, call 1-888-730-2372.

What volunteer opportunities are available?

In delivering services, the Agency recognizes that it never acts alone. It meets needs through developing partnerships, and involving well-trained volunteers in its programs.
The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging welcomes volunteers to serve as long-term care ombudsmen, benefits counselors, and money managers.

How can I do business with the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging?

The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging enters into a number of contracts for nutrition, transportation, caregiver, and other support services. In most cases, contracts are in effect for one or two years, with bids accepted during the month of August. It also accepts vendor applications at all times for homemaker and respite services.

How is the agency funded?

The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging receives federal funds from the Administration on Aging, state funds from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, and local funds from the counties within its service area. In addition, its programs are supported by client contributions.

Who oversees the Agency’s work?

The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging is a program of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and, as such, is governed by NCTCOG’s Executive Board. It receives strategic direction from the Regional Aging Advisory Committee. In addition, it reports to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services as its primary funding source.
