The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging is always in need of caring volunteers to serve with its The Senior Source’s Money Management Program. No prior experience is required.
Volunteer Money Managers assist clients in Denton and Collin counties who have difficulty managing their personal finances. With training and support from the Senior Source, they provide at least monthly assistance to clients who agree to services. Although no prior experience is required, volunteers should have the following qualities:
- General knowledge of household budgeting and personal financial management;
- Accuracy in maintaining financial records;
- Patience and tactfulness, and ability to work well with a wide variety of people;
- Willingness to provide own transportation to visit clients.
What are the ways a Volunteer Money Manager can help?
The Volunteer Money Manager may develop a list of monthly income and expenses, prepare checks to pay bills, maintain the checkbook register, and balance the checkbook. The client signs all checks. The volunteer money manager is not expected to authorize or sign checks.
How do I become a Volunteer Money Manager?
All volunteers must pass a criminal history check and go through training. On average, volunteers spend eight hours a month assisting clients. A one-year commitment is requested.
