Solar or photovoltaic system net metering strategies

Category: Energy Efficiency

Description
Solar or photovoltaic system net metering strategies consist of minimizing electrical loads on structures containing grid connected solar or wind power systems. Comprehensive auditing of devices or appliances producing phantom loads, followed by application of switchable interruptive devices such as power strips, timed relays are implemented. This allows for maximum solar energy system sell back during periods of decreased owner occupancy.

Some examples of these strategies for the home might be, setting the thermostat for an ac system to 80 degrees to prevent cycling during the day if the building is not in use. Complete power down of lighting and computer systems. Keeping refrigerators full of liquids or items to allow unit to hold its thermal mass. Can also include scheduling energy intensive loads for off peak times. Cold water washing and Line drying laundry when applicable.
