TMDL Program
In FY 2011, NCTCOG was tasked by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) with supporting the development of Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Implementation Plan (I-Plan) in the Dallas–Fort Worth area of north central Texas. The I-Plan will address bacteria levels on a continuous segment of the West Fork of the Trinity River running from the confluence of the Trinity and Village Creek in Arlington to the confluence of the Trinity and Five Mile Creek in southern Dallas. Also included are two tributaries off of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, Cottonwood Branch and Grapevine Creek.
Central to any I-Plan are public participation and stakeholder involvement and the Environment & Development Department has been hosting a series of meetings with regional stakeholders, interested groups and individuals, and technical experts in order to determine how best to meet the TCEQ goal of reducing bacteria concentrations to within acceptable risk levels for contact recreation.
