A CLEAN Trinity River
with fishable and swimmable waters
Since fish kills of the early 1970s, great strides have been made in improving the Trinity's water quality. Pollution from point sources, such as industrial pipes and wastewater treatment plants, has been significantly reduced.
Much remains to be accomplished, however, in reducing polluted runoff from non-point sources, such as streets, yards, and construction sites. The North Central Texas Council of Governments is helping cities throughout the region reduce non-point source discharges through EPA's Phase I and Phase II NPDES (National Pollution Discharge Elimination System) stormwater programs.
