Development Excellence Outreach Activities
One of North Central Texas Council of Governments', (NCTCOG's) key roles is serving as a resource for its participating local governments by providing regional programs that can help individual local governments save time and money, and provide enhanced services to their citizens. One such program is the Center of Development Excellence (the Center), which addresses issues that will impact the region as its population grows including, but not limited to, transportation, air quality, water supply, and the environment. Texas Recycles Day Events in North Texas
Texas Recycles Day (TRD), which takes place every year on November 15th, aims to raise public awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of recycling. The recycling process is not just for bottles, cans, and paper anymore, it also includes “nature’s way” of recycling. The theme for 2005 Texas Recycles Day is “Growing Recycling in Texas” with an emphasis on composting. Mulching and composting not only reduce waste, but also benefit your yard and the environment by producing healthier soil and reducing water and fertilizer demands, and reduced erosion, run-off, and pollution. iSWM Design Manual Ready for Review
The Final Review Draft of the newly renamed iSWM Design Manual for Site Development (previously iSWM Design Manual for Development/Redevelopment) is now posted and available for review at iswm.nctcog.org. Floodplain Management Course Offered For the 10th straight year, NCTCOG and FEMA – Region VI will be teaming up to offer the 4 ½ day course Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program in our region. The Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Exam will also be offered as an option at the conclusion of the course. Given the vast amount of flooding resulting from the recent hurricanes, floodplain management and administration is again receiving much attention. FULL ARTICLE>>>
SEE Development Excellence Day Nov 17th
Previously scheduled for September 29, 2005 this unique opportunity to discover more about Development Excellence in North Central Texas. A wide variety of participants will be attending, so the discussion and interaction will provide a great opportunity to learn and network throughout the day. Highlights of the day include a series of presentations on important development issues in the morning, followed by an Urban Land Institute luncheon, and a presentation of our Celebrating Leadership in Development Excellence Award winners and roundtable discussion opportunity for Vision North Texas progress. ORCA Recognizes North Central Texas Communities
On October 27, 2005, representatives from the State of Texas Office of Rural Community Affairs (ORCA) and North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) conducted a ceremonial check presentation for non-entitlement communities in North Central Texas that were awarded Texas Community Development Program (TCDP) and Rural Health grant funds.
