2009 Trinity Trash Bash Targets 80,000 Pounds of Litter
Every fall since 1992, the Trash Bash has seen hundreds of “green volunteers” roll up their sleeves to improve and protect the Trinity River watershed. Active in neighborhoods, parks, lakes, and streams all across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, they have worked to involve their neighbors–young and old—in educational, litter cleanup, and recycling projects. 2009 is the 18th year of that selfless and dedicated effort.
With the support of the Trinity River Environmental Education Society (TREES), 18 city groups expect to host over 4,000 participants at 20 or more event sites on Saturdays throughout September and October 2009. In 2008, an estimated 68,000 of litter and 15,400 pounds of recyclables, 83,400 pounds in total, were collected before they could pollute North Central Texas waterways and the Trinity River. This year’s goal is to collect at least 80,000 pounds of litter.
Communities that are planning 2009 Trinity Trash Bash events include: Allen, Arlington, Benbrook, Burleson, Cedar Creek Lake, Fort Worth, Garland, Grand Prairie, Grapevine, Haltom City, Irving, Kaufman County, Keller, Lewisville, Mesquite, North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, and the Tarrant Regional Water District.
If you would like to volunteer in one of the communities listed above, visit www.trinitytrashbash.com beginning August 1 for constantly updated details.
