Sustainable Development Infrastructure
Funded Infrastructure Projects
In 2001, the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) initiated the Sustainable Development Program. The program is designed to encourage planning and foster growth and development in and around historic downtowns and Main Streets, infill areas, and along passenger rail lines and at stations. By allocating transportation funds to land use projects promoting alternative transportation or reduced automobile use, NCTCOG and its regional partners are working to address escalating air quality, congestion, and quality of life issues, and promote economic development through public/private partnerships.
Since 2001, the program had four cycles of funding (2001, 2006, 2010, and 2018), awarding $163 million including a local match of $32.6 million for infrastructure projects to support sustainable development throughout the region.

2018 Sustainable Development Call for Projects
The fourth Sustainable Development Call for Projects, approved by the RTC in March of 2018, awarded $41.8 million and provided funding for six additional infrastructure projects.

2010 Sustainable Development Call for Projects
The RTC initiated the third Sustainable Development Call for Projects in March 2009, designating $43 million for infrastructure projects, which were awarded in 2010.
