The Ozone Season Lunch Bag Program seeks to improve air quality by reducing the number of vehicle trips that occur during lunch time. Participants of the program sign a pledge card stating that they will bring their lunch to work during Ozone Season. In return for this pledge, participants receive a free, insulated lunch bag bearing the program's logo*.
The Dallas-Fort Worth region usually experiences high levels of ozone between the months of May and October. High levels of ozone can have adverse effects on your health. Statistics have shown that many respiratory illnesses are linked to air pollution. The Air Pollution Watch/Warning System lets the public know when to expect high levels of ozone. An Air Pollution Watch is issued when levels of high ozone are expected the next day. Indicators of high levels of ozone are high temperatures and little to no wind activity. An Air Pollution Warning occurs on any day that records high levels of ozone. As you might be aware, not all air pollution watch days turn into air pollution warning days.
E-mails are sent alerting participants when an Air Pollution Watch or Warning is issued. When these e-mails are received, participants know they need to bring their lunch to work that day. Participants are also encouraged to report their lunch bag use by registering at www.tryparkingit.com and clicking the "Brown Bag" box when they use their lunch bag.
