Hard Accelerations |
Operating a vehicle in ways that require greater engine power, such as hard accelerations or "jackrabbit" accelerations, results in increased fuel consumption and an increased pollutant emission rate. Programs under this category involve increasing law enforcement of aggressive driving.
- Aggressive Driving and Speed Enforcement: This program aims to increase police enforcement of speeding and aggressive driving , thus leading to lower direct emissions from reduced vehicle speed and lower indirect emissions from increased roadway reliability due to fewer accidents. This will also lead to more environmentally friendly driving.
- Intersection Improvements: This includes such elements as: signal timing optimization, controller/cabinet and signal head upgrades, vehicle detectors repair/replacement, communication with a central system, turn lanes, grade separations, pavement striping, lane assignment changes and signage and lighting. Such changes can improve mobility, reduce delays, and minimize emissions.
- Traffic Signal Progression: This includes such elements as signal timing optimization, controller/cabinet and signal head upgrades, vehicle detectors repair/replacement, communication with a central system to maximize mobility and reduce emissions. This includes traffic signal timing, to maximize mobility and reduce emissions.
