Roadway Network Arterial Review

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is in the process of reviewing our GIS-based roadway networks in support of various regional transportation planning activities, including the development of the upcoming Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), Mobility 2035.  We are requesting your assistance in reviewing current and future roadways, with the focus on principle arterials and select minor arterials within your city.  The MTP is a financially constrained document and is used to identify projects for implementation and additional planning efforts.  Federal regulations require that federal actions can only be authorized for projects contained in the MTP, including funding and environmental document approval. Therefore, it is important that facilities on the ground today, as well as any funded improvement and expansion efforts, be accurately represented in the MTP before any federal action can be taken on implementation or environmental document approval.

Below you will find links to the current and horizon year roadway networks, which cover the 12-county Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA).  The networks have been broken down into a grid system of 17 maps.  Clicking on a grid will open the map in PDF format, which will then allow you to zoom in closely to the roadway facilities in your city.  The PDF format also allows for easy printing to aid in the review process.  Additional instructions for printing can be found here.

Staff is requesting your review of roads that are color-coded by number of lanes, along with intersection signal locations.  Please review both the current and the horizon year arterials for lane accuracy, correct alignment, and intersection control, noting any deviations from what is currently on the ground or expected to be funded for the future.  Any new facility that you anticipate to have available funds for should also be noted, along with the source of the funds.  Also, please cross out any future roads on the map that are not expected to be built or for which no funding is anticipated before 2035.

The maps show freeway and toll road facilities in black with other, non regional, arterial streets in grey.  These facilities have been included only for reference; they will be reviewed jointly between the Texas Department of Transportation, the North Texas Tollway Authority, and NCTCOG as part of the Mobility 2035 plan development.  Future signals have not been mapped.  Your assistance in identifying future signal locations is also appreciated.
