Streamlined Project Delivery - Regional Outer Loop

railroad trackNCTCOG conducted a formal study for a future Regional Outer Loop from June 2007 to November 2011.  The Regional Outer Loop was initially envisioned as a series of separate limited-access facilities with independent utility that could form a system to facilitate circumferential travel around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area.
The purpose of the Regional Outer Loop Corridor Feasibility Study was to evaluate the need and feasibility for an outer loop around the Dallas-Fort Worth region, as well as identify potential corridor(s). The concept was derived from numerous studies conducted over the last 50 years, which proposed various facilities around Dallas and Fort Worth. However, those independently considered facilities were not necessarily linked together to comprise a system as considered in this study, and additional new corridor alternatives were investigated as well.
The findings of the study were compared to the original intent and premise of the Regional Outer Loop. None of the regional corridor alternatives evaluated met the intent of the Regional Outer Loop concept as originally conceived, and as a result, a continuous regional transportation facility was not warranted. However, further study for future limited-access facility improvements are recommended for five of the study's 17 subareas. Linked below are the four volumes of the Regional Outer Loop Corridor Feasibility Study Report document the research, analysis, and public involvement efforts conducted, as well as highlight the study's final recommendations.
