(4 Courses - 9 Hours)

In this bundled curriculum, you will have access to the following courses:
  • AIA's Essentials of Cost Management: Cost Management Methodology (3 Hours)
  • AIA's Essentials of Cost Management: Cost-Estimating Methodology (4 Hours)
  • AIA's Essentials of Cost Management: Cost-Estimating Tools (1 Hour)
  • AIA's Essentials of Cost Management: Building Economics (1 Hour)

These courses cover a range of topics that all fall under the umbrella of project cost management. The first course covers cost management methodology, including integrating the cost management process, budgeting and cost planning and managing costs during design. The second course focuses on the essential elements and aspects of cost estimating that are critical in the cost management process. These elements include: standard formats, identification of cost drives, consistent principles of estimate preparation, and more.  Cost-Estimating Tools emphasizes how to gather and utilize cost information from internal information. This course both identifies sources of cost information and describes methods by which to treat and manipulate that information to make it more useful.  Finally, the last course helps you understand today's building economics and the industry trends that can significantly affect cost.  Topics include the breakdown of construction costs, cost components, distribution of hard costs, and the factors that influence building costs.

Courses includes a multiple-choice test at the end of each section. Some of the material in these courses are presented in downloadable PDF files. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read these files. We also recommend you view these courses in Internet Explorer.

Building Essentials: Space Planning                                                                                                                      Purchase $179

(5 Courses - 11 Hours)

In this bundled curriculum, you will have access to the following courses:
  • Space Planning: History and Overview (3 Hours)
  • Space Planning: Security Issues (1 Hour)
  • Space Planning: Barrier Free Design (3 Hours)
  • Space Planning: Furniture and Furnishings (2 Hours)
  • Space Planning: Design Methodology (2 Hours)

The first course will be used as a basis for a better understanding of the lines of development and evolution that led to the status of our own development, and to correct our myopic vision regarding our design inheritance. Security issues helps balance society's need for security with traditional and psychological values and spiritual needs. Barrier Free Design is used as a basis to plan spaces with these protections in mind because currently, all buildings, existing as well as new construction, must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988. Furniture and Furnishings should be used as a basis to plan a workplace environment that will facilitate greater interaction between people and their support facilities. Design Methodology is described as helpful to recognize such influencing factors as evolving computer and communications technologies, psychosocial elements of the workplace and planning for future expansion and growth.

Courses contain downloadable PDF files that require Adobe Acrobat. You must have Flash Player Version 7 or higher to view some parts of these courses. We also recommend you view these courses in Internet Explorer.
