Basic Records Management for Educational agencies provides an understanding of records management and prepares the student for the advanced course. The basic course addresses state and federal records laws and necessary compliance. The material offers an examination of the records life cycle from creation to destruction, and procedures utilized during each life-cycle phase.  The class will also review procedures and policies agencies should consider when developing their records management program.  This class is specific to educational agencies, and will benefit new or current records managers. The course is taught by a Certified Records Manager(CRM).


The objective of this course is to detail overall and/or specific components of a records management program utilizing up-to-date federal, state, and local laws as applicable, including best practices, benchmark and accepted procedures, and how and why these procedures are required or suggested.  Basic records Management offers a fundamental understanding of the Records Management Program that is utilized by an educational agency to foster efficient and cost-effective management of all records in inventory. 

There are three distinct classes for 3 types of governments: a) law enforcement agencies, b) school districts, and c) general municipal and county local governments. This class will be specific to educational agencies.
