This class covers all aspects of the Texas Open Meetings Act as prescribed by law under the regulation of the Office of the Attorney General and satisfies the training requirement under section 551.005. The class covers the conduct of both open and closed meetings; notice requirements; open sessions; closed sessions; recordings of meetings; penalties and remedies; new technologies and social media; and discussion of scenarios encountered in meetings regulated by Texas Code Chp. 551. The course and the instructor is certified by the Office of the Attorney General and satisfies Texas Code training requirements for elected officials and those conducting government meetings in their organization.
The objective of this course is to present an overview of current laws and practices, as well as to answer questions and provide guidance for Open Records and Open Meetings procedures. This course is taught by staff from the Texas Attorney General's Office.
