File management is an integral and necessary part of a well-executed records management program. The ability to organize and carry out filing operations for both paper and electronic records is a mandatory component, helping to achieve efficient and cost-effective records management.

This class offers a discussion of file management procedures, including classification systems, developing and improving access and retrieval, file indexing and coding, and decisions about equipment and supplies.

The information offered results in understanding filing systems management and administration that coordinates the paper and electronic records, and complements the overall records management program. This is a 3-hour course. The instructor is a Certified Records Manager (CRM).


The class will detail overall and/or specific components of a records management program utilizing up-to-date federal, state, and local laws as applicable, including best practices, benchmark and accepted procedures, and how and why these procedures are required or suggested.
