Course Description

The morning portion of the class details overall as well as specific components of a records management program utilizing up-to-date federal, state, and local laws as applicable, including best practices, benchmark and accepted procedures, and how and why these procedures are required or suggested.
 
There are three distinct classes for 3 types of governments: a) law enforcement agencies, b)school districts, and c) general municipal and county local governments.   This class is specific to general municipal and county local governments.
 
In the afternoon we will move into more specific issues of a records management program including procedures and accepted methods for a records inventory, analysis of the records held by the local government, creating the records retention schedule, analysis and development of filing and retrieval systems, records storage, and final destruction. This course includes discussion of records management for all media, including electronic and microfilm, and industry accepted practices that result in an efficient and cost-effective records management program.
