Basic Records Management for Local Governments provides an understanding of the records management program for all local government records. The course will address state and federal records laws and necessary compliance with state laws that affect local governments. The course offers an examination of the records life cycle from creation to destruction, and procedures utilized during each life-cycle phase. The class will also review procedures and policies local governments should consider when developing their records management program. This class will benefit new or current records managers and is taught by a Certified Records Manager (CRM).
 

Objectives

The class details overall and/or specific components of a records management program utilizing up-to-date federal, state, and local laws as applicable, including best practices, benchmark and accepted procedures, and how and why these procedures are required or suggested.

There are three distinct classes for 3 types of governments: a) law enforcement agencies, b)school districts, and c) general municipal and county local governments.   This class is specific to general municipal and county local governments.
