Access North Texas Key

Dallas/Fort Worth Airport

The purpose of Access North Texas is to improve public transportation for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and individuals with lower incomes. These populations can have difficulty finding public transportation options that connect them to doctor’s appointments, work opportunities and education or job training. This plan identifies where these transportation connections do not exist or could be improved.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW Airport) is the largest airport in Texas and fourth largest in the United States. Travel to and from the DFW airport is significant as it takes into account a variety of forms.  Passengers do not need to rely upon their car to arrive for their flight.  Uber and Lyft now exceed taxi and limousines according to airport data.  And Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) provides convenient transportation to the airport using the DART Rail Orange Line, the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and their buses.

In 2013 we learned the following key strategies for the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport include:

  • Explore feeder transit service from cities with significant population of airport employees
  • Explore partnerships for site-specific shuttles to serve major employers
  • Implement parking policies at transit stations
  • Maintain a last-mile connection between DFW and CentrePort Station, and
  • Encourage employees to use transit
