Urban Forestry
As the NCTCOG region continues to develop, preservation of green space and natural features remains a challenge, but one worth pursuing. Urban forestry encompasses the support, planning, development, and management of trees in a community setting, and is a key component of green space preservation practices. These spaces have the potential to
- provide urban cooling,
- improve air quality,
- reduce flooding, and
- support watershed quality goals.
NCTCOG supports the enhancement of the regional urban forest by hosting workshops and sharing resources, such as reports or funding opportunities, and by connecting local governments to industry experts to further foster regional collaboration.

An Urban Forestry Council is responsible for promoting the value of urban forests. The NCTCOG region is covered by two Regional Urban Forestry Councils- The Trinity Blacklands Urban Forestry Council covers the east part of the region, and the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council covers the west.
NCTCOG collaborates with both groups to seek input on priorities, share resources, and identify areas of need.
