About the North Central Texas Council of Governments

Founded in 1966, the North Central Texas Council of Governments is a voluntary group of local governments that work together to address regional issues and strengthen North Central Texas. Encompassing a 16-county region centered on Dallas-Fort Worth, NCTCOG delivers regional planning, coordination, and expert technical support across domains such as transportation, emergency preparedness, environmental sustainability, public safety, workforce development, and much more. These core values guide our work and foster open, transparent governance.

Governing Body

NCTCOG's governing body is its Executive Board, comprised of 17 locally elected officials and one ex-officio non-voting member. The Executive Board guides all activities undertaken by the Council of Governments, including program activities and decisions, regional plans, and fiscal and budgetary policies.

Each spring, the Board President initiates the Executive Board nomination process. Members present at NCTCOG’s annual General Assembly elect officers and directors by majority vote to serve one-year terms.
