Servant leadership brings smiles to children and families

Members of the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS) class 317 had the privilege of visiting children and their families at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas as part of a community service initiative. Through the extraordinary generosity of the recruits, academy staff, and Super Mario, an overwhelming number of toys – too many to count – were donated to help brighten the day of the young patients.

Throughout the visit, smiles stretched from ear to ear as children received toys and, equally important, the gift of time and personal connection. The joy and excitement displayed by the children and their caregivers served as a powerful reminder of the positive impact that simple acts of kindness can have on others.

The memories created during this visit will remain etched in the hearts and minds of those the recruits and staff were fortunate enough to spend time with. A representative from Scottish Rite Hospital shared that they would welcome the police academy back anytime, noting that they had never experienced this level of generosity and support from a visiting group.
