Recruits participate in 9/11 tribute workout

On September 10, 36 recruits from two BCAPS classes participated in the 9/11 Tribute Workout, completing an intentionally challenging physical training event in remembrance of the first responders, public servants, and innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.

What stood out was not simply the difficulty of the workout, but the purpose with which the recruits approached it. Seeing the American flag carried proudly and watching these future peace officers stand together during the National Anthem was a powerful reminder of the values we hope to instill throughout their time at the Regional Police Academy: service, sacrifice, teamwork, perseverance, and respect for those who came before them.

"I am extremely proud of the 36 men and women who participated and grateful for our RPA staff who volunteered their time and efforts to facilitate the event and ensure it was conducted safely. I am equally appreciative of our partner law enforcement agencies for entrusting us with their recruits and supporting the traditions and values we work to foster at RPA, " said RPA director Christy Martinez. "There are many measures we use to evaluate the success of a police academy – graduation rates, licensing examination results, enrollment, and training outcomes. Days like today remind me that there are also outcomes that are more difficult to quantify but equally important: developing future officers who understand the significance of service and the responsibility that comes with wearing the badge."
