Training Requirements

Municipalities

Initial Training

10 hours within first 12 months in position

Renewal Training
(every 2 years)

8 hours, based on Entity’s fiscal year

Exceptions

Only investing in Interest Bearing Accounts and local CDs - exempt from renewal training at the discretion of the Entity and the local auditor. (If you are using Pools, you are not exempt.)

School Districts

Initial Training

10 hours within first 12 months in position

Renewal Training
(every 2 years)

8 hours, based on Entity’s fiscal year

Exceptions

Only investing in Interest Bearing Deposit Accts and local CDs - Exempt from renewal training (8 hours) initial training is still required (10 hours) (If you are using Pools, you are not exempt.)

District annually submits to the Texas Education Agency a sworn affidavit identifying the applicable criteria that apply to the district.

Other Local Governments

Initial Training

10 hours within first 12 months in position

Renewal Training
(every 2 years)

10 hours, based on Entity’s fiscal year

None

State Agencies and Institutions of Higher Education

Initial Training

5 hours within first 6 months in position

Renewal Training
(every 2 years)

5 hours, based on Entity’s fiscal year

Exceptions

None

Water, Utility, and Drainage Districts

Initial Training

6 hours within first 12 months in position

Renewal Training
(every 2 years)

4 hours, based on Entity’s fiscal year

Exceptions

Chapter 36 and 49 are excluded.

Appraisal Districts

Initial Training

10 hours within first 12 months in position

Renewal Training
(every 2 years)

10 hours, based on Entity’s fiscal year

Exceptions

None

Housing Authorities

Initial Training

10 hours within first 12 months in position

Renewal Training
(every 2 years)

5 hours, based on Entity’s fiscal year

Exceptions

If only investing in CDs and Interest Bearing accounts you are exempted from all training requirements. If in any other investments, ie. a  Pool, you must have training as listed above.
