This section highlights some of the many projects supported by the TxCDBG program to develop viable communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environments, and to expand economic opportunities.
Regional Spotlight
TxCDBG's Community Development Fund has had a big impact in North Texas! From 2012 to 2022, approximately $70 million was committed to 88 different communities to complete 226 public improvement projects in NCTCOG's 16-county area! The majority of projects have addressed water system or sewer system improvements.
Community Spotlight
The City of Anna will install sidewalks and lighting on West 4th Street in its downtown area utilizing 2023 funds. This is the first significant pedestrian and accessibility improvements in this area and is a critical project in the redevelopment of downtown Anna. This project will support private economic development in Anna's downtown and will better connect downtown businesses to nearby recreation areas for improved patron experience and economic vitality. It will also improve access and quality of life for lower-income residents.
The City of Italy will reconstruct approximately half of its downtown sidewalks and install pedestrian lighting. This project has been a long-time goal to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility in downtown. This project, utilizing 2023 funds, will support private economic investment in Italy's downtown and increase economic activity in the city.
The City of Frost will install a de-watering system at its sewer plant and also complete smoke testing of its sewer system utilizing 2023 funds. This project will improve sewer treatment, significantly reduce operational costs, and identify locations of inflow and infiltration for the city to repair in order to extend the life of its sewer plant.
The City of Keene will be reconstructing a highly utilized thoroughfare to allow safer access to educational and social services facilities in Keene. The work is utilizing funds to be received through a 2023 grant from the Community Development Fund.
The City of Glen Rose will reconstruct several streets in the southern part of the city that frequently flood and are dangerous for residents to use. This project is made possible through funding from the 2023 Community Development Fund to improve the public safety and quality of life for residents and will also improve drainage in this part of the city.
The City of Alma will utilize 2023 funds to reconstruct a local street that has been virtually impassable for several years. This will allow residents to stop using a four-mile detour on their daily commutes and improve public safety in the city.
The City of Lipan will reconstruct two streets utilizing 2023 funds. This project will provide a safe driving surface for residents and effectively eliminate the flooding that occurs on these streets.
The City of Blue Ridge has replaced sewer lines, opening an area of land for development that will provide economic opportunities for current and future residents. The sewer line work was completed in early 2022 utilizing grant funds received in 2019 from the Community Development Fund.
The City of Kaufman completed a project in 2019 to repair and upgrade their storm drainage system. They utilized funds received in 2018 from the Community Development Fund to address flooding issues along Dallas Street.
The City of Garrett has rebuilt several city streets to provide better access to neighborhoods, allowing school buses to transport children safely and allowing residents to avoid damage to their vehicles. The street work utilized funds received from a 2019 grant from the Community Development Fund.
The City of Gordon has begun work to update and repair its Water Treatment Plant’s filtration and treatment systems. The changes are necessary to provide treated water for all residents. The work is utilizing funds received from a 2021 grant from the Community Development Fund.
The City of Springtown will be replacing aging infrastructure in areas that need water and sewer system upgrades. Grant funds received in 2020 and 2021 from the Community Development Fund will make these improvements possible.
