Staff provides assistance to plan for and implement public transportation services in North Central Texas.
Near-Term Planning and Operational Support
Staff provides support for local governments that are considering public transportation services that are a good fit for their communities. Current efforts include developing comprehensive and coordinated transit planning and implementation plans for several study areas in Collin, Dallas, Tarrant, Kaufman, and Rockwall Counties. Please contact us for assistance with planning, implementing, and funding local and regional transit services. Access North Texas is the region's plan to coordinate transit services for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and individuals with lower incomes in order to expand service and increase access to communities across the Metroplex.
Corridor and Subarea Studies
Staff develops and refines comprehensive, detailed, and environmentally focused studies in support of transit investments. For example, current efforts include planning and implementation of high-speed passenger rail in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and connecting the Dallas-Fort Worth region to other metropolitan areas. The Regional People Mover Initiative will identify the merits of “last-mile” people mover technologies, assess opportunities, and evaluate the cost efficiencies of a single people mover technology and provider. Other areas of study include transit-oriented development station area and corridor planning. For example, staff is performing a feasibility study for the McKinney Avenue Trolley extension from uptown Dallas to the Knox-Henderson Neighborhood.
The region's Metropolitan Transportation Plans contain long-range plans for public transportation in North Central Texas.
