PRESS RELEASE

Arlington, TEXAS – The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) invites individuals, businesses and local governments to become active participants in the effort to improve air quality in North Texas on Clean Air Action Day, Friday, June 6.
Many people and employers across North Texas have been involved in this effort for years. For those still thinking about how they can become part of the solution, this is a great time to start. This annual event is dedicated to raising awareness about air pollution and encouraging individuals to commit to at least one clear air action.
With ozone season in full swing, this day serves as a reminder that clean air is essential to public health and people throughout the region can play a role in improving it. Air quality is impacted by daily activities. Here are ways everyone can contribute to cleaner air:
Clean Air Action Day is the flagship event sponsored annually by Air North Texas, NCTCOG’s campaign dedicated to bringing public awareness to the importance of improving the air we breathe.
Ten counties in the region (Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant and Wise) are in nonattainment for ozone pollution, and Air North Texas is one way NCTCOG works to ensure air quality remains a focal point throughout the transportation planning process.
Once deciding which contribution to make, take the Clean Air Action Day pledge at AirNorthTexas.org/CleanAirActionDay. On Clean Air Action Day, share how you celebrate with us on social media by using #CAAD2025 and tagging @NCTCOGtrans.
To support these efforts, NCTCOG offers resources, including the Air North Texas website, which provides information on air quality, programs, policies, projects, clean fuels, technology and long-term planning. Read more about these resources at AirNorthTexas.org/AQ-Resources/Helpful-Links.
Funding is also an important part of the clean air equation. Consumers and fleet operators can find federal, state and local opportunities for grant funding at NCTCOG.org/AQfunding. Since 2006, NCTCOG has awarded over $60 million in grant funding to more than 2,000 activities, supporting cleaner air vehicle technology, infrastructure and education.
Additionally, the NCTCOG Air Quality Handbook offers a comprehensive look at regional initiatives and breaks down improvement strategies by audience. Whether you’re a policymaker, business owner or North Texas resident, the handbook provides practical steps to contribute to cleaner air across the region. The handbook is available at NCTCOG.org/Trans/Quality/Air.

With ozone season in full swing, this day serves as a reminder that clean air is essential to public health and people throughout the region can play a role in improving it. Air quality is impacted by daily activities. Here are ways everyone can contribute to cleaner air:
- Individuals: Limit recreational vehicle use, maintain consistent driving speeds and reduce idling by skipping the drive-thru lines at restaurants or choose alternative transportation like mass transit, bicycling or walking.
- Businesses: Conserve water and electricity, allow remote work or alternative schedules and maintain vehicle emissions and safety inspections.
- Governments: Implement strategies in public services, programs and enforcement and employee communication. Actions can include limiting emergency generator testing, enforcing vehicle idling restrictions and encouraging reduced travel.
